In Da Club was the worldwide smash that’s still infectious today, but this was just one high among a cavalcade of hip hop anthems. What Up Gangsta sets the scene – placing Fiddy in the lineage of Biggie/Nas/Jigga – while Many Men and High All The Time ensure the taut pace is never broken.

In fact, there are strong grounds to say that, via his playful genius, his likeability and willingness to steer lyrical content towards careful, coded truth, while retaining a reputation for unadulterated rap, he is the archetype of UK drill’s modern era. Via DIY community organising, leveraging the power of internet technology, they have plugged gaps left by government cuts to youth services while converting the cultural capital of black British music into a thriving, world-beating microeconomy. “I think it’s not being afraid to make something different, and just always creating something a bit weird in comparison to what is popular! When you’re in the studio it’s very tempting to repeat sounds and techniques that you know work, for ease of getting something down. It’s also easy to fall into the trap of thinking what you’re making is not fitting to what’s popular right now, and not flowing with any ideas or sounds that are strange during the production process. On '$' Ka acknowledges his place in the rap game and his community, and the overwhelming feelings of duty it instils in him, while 'Mourn At Night' brings chills with its morose core. Lyrically, Ka stays as deep and real as Pusha, less prone to puns and punchlines but nonetheless adept at clever wordplay.
“When Doves Cry” was one of two songs written by Prince after being asked by the director of the “Purple Rain” film, Albert Magnoli, to write a song that would fit with a particular scene that dealt with parental difficulties and a love affair. The song is made up of “previously rejected materials” and was spliced together from various other songs using tape during the recording process, which one of the reasons all of the members are credited as writers. Despite the method in which it was created, it still has a basic rock structure with distinct sections. It is upbeat and happy sounding despite starting as a slower song.
