We’re really not sure why it worked so well, because we measured relatively weak suction. It must be something about the cleaning head, which felt like it gripped the floor in a way that’s uncommon among cordless vacuums—and totally unique at this price. The downside is that the Black+Decker works just okay on bare floors, where it struggles with debris that’s very heavy or very light . We found that the standard setting was suitable for most tasks, but we needed to increase the suction to high for a particularly dirty carpet. Plus, when you do need to empty the bin, the lever allows you to push all the debris out without ever having to touch the dirt and grime. Was the top all-around performer in our testing, efficiently removing dirt, dust, pet hair and large debris from both hard and carpeted floors, as well as furniture.
Bagless vacuums can potentially create problems for allergy sufferers when it comes time to empty the machine. The process can lead to some potentially sneeze-inducing dust clouds.
