Semi translucent red to dark red colour with black toned edges and a light crimson red hue. Seductive violet, red cherry and strawberry aromas carry a perfumed like intensity out of the glass followed by fresh herb, forest floor and spicy cedar notes. Delicious red to dark cherry and strawberry fruits are both vibrant and juicy with notions of vanillin cedar, forest floor and spicy dried herbs lying underneath.
The established vineyards on the Peninsula now have the significant advantage of meaningful vine age. But the reality is that many of those vineyards would likely be planted with different clones, different densities and sometimes different orientations based on today’s knowledge. Crittenden, la crema pinot noir 2017 a horticulturist by trade, scouted for a Peninsula property in the early 1980s alongside surgeon Dr Richard McIntyre, who was also looking for a suitable site. A bright, fresh, racy version, showing pomegranate and blood orange fruit laced with a mouthwatering mineral edge, with light savory and sanguine hints adding range on the finish. Might be on the skinny side for some, but this is balanced and persistent. A blend of clones and a warm year have combined to produce a juicy, generous wine with lots of fruit intensity- plum, cherry and blackberry. There is plenty of body and length with a  crunchy acidity and a spicy oak touch. This is incredibly fresh and vivid with orange peel, orange blossoms, cherries and hints of rose stem. Medium-bodied with a sleek and racy palate of creamy, fine tannins and a energetic length and purity.
We gathered every Mornington pinot noir that we could find and set our expert panel the task of finding the wines that compelled the most. All wines were tasted blind, and each panellist named their top six wines. Below are the wines that made the panellists’ top-six selections from the tasting. Black countered that recent vintages would likely play a part in that, and several of the wines were likely made to be consumed more readily – that even though there was a decently sized selection, it was still a limited survey. It’s an opportunity to collaborate with some exceptional vineyards and people across the state and produce wines that connect with our philosophy of making wine from the ground up. All of our decisions are focused on how we can do things better in order to minimise our impact on the environment.
Stylish and seductive, the wine shows dark plum, assorted nut, thyme, cured meat and rich floral aromas on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate displaying silky flow and fleshy texture. Tannins are fine and beautifully infused, making the wine gorgeously harmonious and persistent. A blend of grapes from Bannockburn, Earnscleugh & Gibbston Vineyards.
Fabiens vinification for this wine is all about capturing finesse fragrance and purity and he has succeeded brilliantly. The Bindi Dixon Pinot Noir is based upon declassified grapes from the Original Vineyard planted in 1988 and grapes from the new Block K, planted in 2001. The ideal of this wine is to produce a delicious, perfumed, spicy harmonious, textured wine that is not as intense, complex nor ageworthy as our individual vineyard wines. Even when the outstanding Block K vines are older we will continue to declassify sections or barrels from each vineyard and produce this wine.

Sappy, moreish and complex, this wine can be enjoyed now but will gain interest over the medium term. Elegantly structured palate, presenting refined flavours of red cherry, ripe raspberry, and subtle cranberry, complemented by nuanced layers of gentle spices, subtle black tea leaf, and earthy minerality. Polished tannins and lively acidity ensure impeccable balance and sophisticated elegance. Light and feathery, with nutty flavours, bright acidity, a fine powdery tannin texture, and a firm red cherry and red fruited finish.
Mansons Farm Pinot Noir is hand crafted in very limited quantities. Our 2016 is medium ruby red in colour with a bouquet of black cherry, savoury brown spice, and notes of baronial flower. On the palate, a dense, dark berry entry and hints of spice are supported by an elegant tannin structure. Dark cherry and spice aromas integrate nicely with a hint of forest floor (sous bois).

The tannins and acid work in harmony to give this wine structure, length and freshness. Strawberry and  red cherry, a little paprika and earth, but kind of rosy too. It’s medium-bodied, red fruits with a pleasing gentle graphite tannin grip, some pomegranate tang and orange zest, with a sappy finish offering good length. A wine of distinct personality that offers plenty of drinking pleasure.
He also managed to squeeze in a winemaking degree in his spare time. Since 2003, Nadeson has been focused solely on the estate, farming with biodynamic principles and making wine from home vines, select local vineyards and as far afield as Heathcote, the Pyrenees and Henty. With a generally vaunted reputation, Mornington Peninsula pinot noir is already in an enviable position, even without the significant advantage of tourism that its idyllic location and surrounds encourage. The foundation was laid long ago, and the wines have found their place around the country and indeed around the world, with many estates exporting broadly, albeit often in small quantities.

Rich mouth filling dark plum, ripe cherry, strawberry and anise flavours are layered across the mid weighted palate. Concentrated and fleshy textured it has polished yet underlyingly sturdy tannins. Bright notes of fresh raspberry, cherries and black pepper on the nose with an underlying layer of mineral and cacao. On the palate, it’s persistent with generous red fruits, cedar, subtle game, and a dusting of aniseed. The 2024 Pinot Noir reveals enticing aromas of red and black fruits mingled with spice and earthy undertones.
