Bestn Taitung Products of All Time
Since then, dragon boat racing has been carried out on this day and rice dumplings are also eaten. Few tourists ever make it out this way, so try this night market out for an off-the-beaten-track and Southern Taiwan vibe. No scooters or traffic to worried about inside the night market is another plus. Yizhong Street Night Market (一中街夜市) is a more centrally located Taichung night market. This one is Taichung’s hippest night market, so I would compare it to Ximending shopping district in Taipei. High mountain oolong tea refers to the oolong grown at least 1,000 metres above sea level.
The Taroko Eternal Spring Changchun Shrine is one of the most popular sites in the park. The stunning temple sits atop a natural spring and was built in honour of the many who lost their lives building the highway through Taroko National Park. Accommodation in Kenting is a mix of resort-style beachside hotels and smaller, boutique-style options. Take the 肉鬆蛋捲 bus from Alishan to Chiayi Station and, from there, take the train to Kaohsiung, a further 2 hours 10 minutes. From the chaotic Taipei to the magnificent sunrises in Alishan, the peaceful Taroko Gorge and the colourful Taichung there’s a lot to squeeze into a Taiwan itinerary. We recommend budgeting around 14 nights to explore Taiwan at a leisurely pace.
The Green Island Lighthouse is located on the northwest headland. It is a pure white straight-shaped building with a height of 3.3.3 meters. The construction of the Green Island Lighthouse was due to the American cruise ship "Hoover" hitting a reef and sank near Green Island in December 26th of the Republic of China. City Super is the nicest grocery store / supermarket in Taichung in my opinion. It’s got the biggest selection of imported goods in the city. Stuff is expensive, but quality is unbeatable, especially for the veggies and deli items.
There is also a very famous aquarium in Hengchun, a small city near Kenting, called the National Museum of Marine Biology. Here’s the local shuttle bus for getting to the aquarium and other places in Kenting. On your last day, wake up super early to see the famous Alishan sunrise.
On the morning of the 16th, wake up disturbingly early to take the small train line to the famous sunrise viewing point. The train is usually packed with notoriously loud tourists, so you can also consult my Alishan guide to find out how to hike up to the viewpoint, or to find other sunrise viewpoints with no tourists. For all these reasons, Alishan does attract tour group masses, but it’s still one of my favorite places in Taiwan.
Wenshang Temple is situated on a lane fronting a long, thin park built above the the MRT red line. In the daytime the narrow lane is filled with vendors selling products and other goods. While typical Taiwanese temples (of the Taoist/Buddhist/folk religion variety) tend to be extremely ornate and busy, the Confucius Temple is comparative calm and simpler in design. Instead of numerous god statues you will see tablets and plaques with calligraphy on display.

In smaller cities, they are only open certain nights of the week, and may move to different streets depending on the day of the week. It should be possible to rent a scooter by the day, week or month, depending on the city in which you're staying. In Taipei, as of September 2008, the only place legally renting scooters and motorbikes to foreigners is the Bikefarm , which is run by a very friendly and helpful English guy called Jeremy. In Taichung, Foreigner Assistance Services In Taiwan F.A.S.T offers a rental service for foreign visitors. Otherwise, scooters are generally easy to rent in most major cities, with many such places being conveniently located near railway or bus stations.

This turtle shaped island requires special permission to land – I climbed to its 401m high peak and explored its abandoned village. Gugong aka the National Palace Museum is home of the Jadeite cabbage and one-stop shop for Taiwan’s history and artefacts. For people looking to explore a bit more of what Taipei has to offer, this 2-day itinerary has a bit more of a hipster design lover angle. Toyota announced last month it sold 1.2 million Corollas in 2013, a 5% year-over-year increase. Since its introduction in Japan in 1966 — the car became available in the U.S. in 1968 — Toyota has sold more than 40.7 million Corollas, more than any other car model. The Corolla’s success on the market is likely due to its reliability, relatively low gas mileage, and affordability.
Make sure you have relevant international driving license to rent cars or motorbikes. Hello, I live in Taoyuan and I would recommend DaXi old street be on the list since it’s famous for 豆乾 and the old buildings from the 19th century.
